Farmton at the Crossroads
Today, as in the 1920’s and the 1940’s, market forces are placing the Farmton tract at a crossroads. Population growth and development of the land surrounding Farmton has resulted in the shutdown of nearby sawmills. Changes in the timber markets, both domestic and international, have eroded the economic viability of the independent logging crews who purchase and remove the timber. Many have gone out of business.
Miami Corporation is again studying new uses for the Farmton tract, as they have in the past. The company hopes to craft an intelligent approach that will again be viable for the long term.
