Deering Park to add another 4,000 acres for land conservation in 70,000-acre development
Developers of Deering Park in Edgewater recently announced an additional 4,000 acres will be set aside for conservation, bringing the total protected land to about 46,000 acres within the 70,000-acre development. This expansion means more than half of the property will be permanently preserved, reinforcing the project’s long-term environmental focus.
Conservation planning for the site dates back years and includes protecting key ecological areas identified through environmental studies. A major component of these efforts is the planned Edgewater Wetland Park, which aims to improve regional water quality by reducing wastewater discharge into the Indian River Lagoon. The project is supported through a partnership that includes funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
In addition to conservation, Deering Park will feature an extensive trail network connected to regional systems, offering public access to natural areas within the Florida Wildlife Corridor. The overall development will include a mix of residential, commercial, and employment spaces, with plans for tens of thousands of homes over multiple phases.
The first phase, expected to begin delivering homes and amenities by 2026, will include thousands of residences along with parks, trails, and retail areas. The project will also incorporate a large-scale, modern stormwater management system designed to handle heavy rainfall, reduce runoff, and avoid impacting surrounding communities.
