Volusia School Board votes on $80M Deering Park charter
The Volusia County School Board has approved a charter for Deering Park School, an estimated $80 million K-8 STEAM-focused school planned within the Deering Park community in Edgewater. The school is expected to open in 2029 and will offer a curriculum centered on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Designed to serve the growing Southeast Volusia region, the school will be open to all students, with enrollment projected to increase over time as the community develops.
During the approval process, school board members and community leaders highlighted the school's potential to support future population growth, expand educational opportunities, and help meet increasing demand for classroom capacity in the area. The charter was approved by a 4-0 vote.
